WHAT: Members participate in learn-by-doing activities, youth-adult partnerships, and research-based educational programs to help enhance their leadership abilities and develop a wide range of other life skills. Membership age is 5-19, with some limitations for primary members age 5-8. The current program year is July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008.
WHY: 4-H develops leadership/citizenship skills; provides life skills education; strengthens youth-families-communities; and advances the field of youth development
HOW: Members may participate in clubs, special interest groups, camp or other program settings. A minimum of 6 hours of education is required. Leadership and community service opportunities are available at the county, regional, state and national levels. Project costs vary. Uniform is optional.
WHERE: 4-H can be almost anywhere! A minimum of one adult volunteer leader and three members is required.
SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS: In addition to clubs, youth may be organized as special interest groups, including schools, child care centers, and other agencies. Groups can meet short-term or year-round. Current groups include the School Embryology Project.
COUNTY COUNCIL: All adult leaders and members at least age 16 are members of the County Council. The Council meets 3-4 times a year to plan county events and make recommendations to staff. Next meeting: Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the 4-H office.

LEADER ORIENTATION: All leaders must be cleared in a background check and have participated in orientation before they can begin their service. Community club leaders will be notified of orientation dates, which will be available both during the day and evening hours. Applications for fingerprinting/Livescan are available by contacting Cindy at the 4-H Office.
TUFTS STUDY: 4-H is partnering with Tufts University and participating in a "Survey of Positive Youth Development". Youth 12-17 years old, 4-H AND non-4-H members, can participate. The survey is scheduled for Thursday, June 9th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Dance Palace, Fifth and B Streets, Pt. Reyes. Dinner, along with a $10.00 gift certificate, will be provided. 4-H SUMMER MINI DAY CAMP: Monday and Tuesday, July 14th & 15th, at beautiful Stafford Lake Park in Novato. Camp runs from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and is for ages 5 to 12. Activities include: outdoor cooking, Arts & Crafts, Naturalist hike & other outdoor activities. You may sign up for both days ($37) or one day ($20). COUNTY RECORD BOOK JUDGING: Wednesday, July 16th at the 4-H office. Record books are due to the office by Wednesday, July 9th, 4:00 p.m. No late entries will be accepted.
